Crafty Baba - an Ipswich success story!
Launching a new, niche shop in Ipswich was a venture into the unknown. With no retail experience beyond a sense that customers should be treated with warmth and respect, we quietly opened our doors three years ago in the Saints district of Ipswich.
The location was a mixture of luck and some research on our part about up and coming areas of the town. It was obvious to us that a fabric and haberdashery store like Crafty Baba needed to be amongst other independent retailers like the Italian Shirt Shop, Love One and the Applaud Coffee House. Having Jenny Wren Yarns as a neighbour was an added bonus as we knew their customers would be interested in our wares too (people still confuse us, wondering where we are hiding the yarn!).
Three years on, we have built up a solid customer base in the shop. We have over 30 different types of sewing classes on offer and 1,000 lines of fabric for dressmaking and quilting. We stock a huge range of British fabrics as well as some wonderful, imported Japanese textiles of which we are particularly proud of. Our mantra is 'great service and free advice' meaning we are always happy to discuss customer's sewing projects and offer help.
is a family run shop, open six days a week from 10am to 4pm (closed Sundays) at 32 St Peters Street.
