Holywells Park
Holywells Park has been transformed by a £3.5 million “Parks For People” refurbishment, which has created a visitor centre and café in the old Stable Block, restored a beautiful conservatory and established an outdoor theatre and entertainment space in the walled garden.
The refurbishment project was funded largely by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Big Lottery, with contributions from the Borough Council and the Friends.
Holywells is not only a beautiful park rich in wildlife, it is also home to a number of community events.
Christchurch Park
Christchurch Park is home to the historic Christchurch Mansion, a Tudor house open to the public as a museum. The Mansion contains the most important collection of Constables outside London. Entry is free.
Christchurch Park is close to the town centre but a world away with its magnificent trees and arboreta, wild areas, ponds and acres of play space. It is also home to the park’s most famous resident, Mabel the owl.
The Reg Driver Visitor Centre is located in the park, which is transformed during the summer into a location for some of Ipswich’s biggest events – Music Day, the Indian Mela and Global Rhythm. Brass on the Grass supplies a more traditional entertainment in the arboretum.
There are also free tennis courts in the park.
Chantry Park
Chantry Park is the largest town park in Ipswich. It extends over 124 acres of parkland and wildlife areas on the western edge of Ipswich and the whole site is a conservation area.
Chantry Park offers two children's play areas, a public car park and wildlife ranger events. It is also home to Ipswich & East Suffolk Cricket Club and the beautiful Italianate gardens of the magnificent Sue Ryder care home.
Orwell Country Park
Orwell Country Park's 250 acres spread out from the beautiful River Orwell into meadows and ancient woodlands. It offers visitors a variety of walks, wildlife and scenery to explore, with spectacular views. Orwell Country Park is part of the Suffolk Coast & Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
There are many other wonderful parks and green spaces in and around Ipswich, which offer a variety of activities, from the family friendly paddling pool in Bourne Park to nature walks in Kiln Meadow and Belstead Brook Park.
