ABP

Associated British Ports (ABP) “handles 120 million tonnes of cargo each year - about a quarter of the county’s seaborne trade. With 21 ports around the UK, including the short sea ports of Ipswich and Lowestoft in Suffolk, ABP plays a vital role in the country’s economy. The Port of Ipswich is Britain’s largest grain exporter and handles a wide range of cargo, particularly aggregates, cement, timber products, animal feed and fertilisers through two major terminals. It also has an environmentally-friendly treatment plant for timber products from Scandinavia and the Baltics.

The Port of Ipswich, situated at the head of the River Orwell and 12 miles from the open sea, is within a short sailing time from the North Sea shipping lanes. The major trunk roads A14 and A12 are both within easy reach and have connections to the M1 and M25 respectively. The port also has an active rail line at its West Bank.
