A Short stroll in the Fynn Valley

POSTED ON: 30/12/2016

This walk takes about an hour at a moderate pace. Reasonable underfoot, sensible shoes recommended, no stiles along route.

Head out of Ipswich from the by-pass via Tuddenham Road roundabout into Tuddenham Village. Parking in lay-by opposite 'The Fountain' or take a previous right turn at the bus shelter, past the letter box into Fynn Lane for five more parking spots.

Keeping to the road, walk ahead up Fynn Lane, eventually the tarmac changes to a track. Keep going upwards, under/round the barrier and into the countryside. Soon the track goes steeply downwards between two high hedges, at the bottom look right for the post with the Fynn Valley/Circular Walk markers.

Turn right up the grassy track until you reach the seat. Have a rest here to admire the view, Pooh Sticks Bridge is near left and the Lowestoft train track ahead. Continue from the seat, hedge to the left, wire fence on the right; at the wooden five bar gate, it changes to hedge on the right hand, fence on the left.

At the end of the field fence take the path left through a tree canopy and down to the River Fynn. There is another Fynn Valley Walk marker here, cross the concrete bridge towards the pumping station, follow the track round to the track T-junction and turn right, keeping walking.

Go through the road barriers and look right for the short wooden footpath sign behind the tree trunk with a house name attached, past the metal gates on to a path which goes down behind the church. Bear left at the bottom onto The Street, look right for the Tuddenham Fountain pub ahead.

Half a cider anyone?

Happy walking.
