Ipswich is a renowned cultural centre for entertainment and creativity. Royal ballet master and principal character artist Gary Avis, recognised for his outstanding commitment to ballet, is responsible for bringing a first class list of Royal Ballet stars to Ipswich – stars who have never been seen on stage together before - even at Covent Garden.

“I’m proud to come from Ipswich and it’s time we started to celebrate the wonderful cultural opportunities we have in the town and across Suffolk.”

Thanks to Avis and Trevor Nunn CBE, former artistic director of the RSC and The Royal National Theatre, many first class performances have been staged in Ipswich for the town’s audiences to enjoy.  Indeed both Avis and Nunn have continued to give back to the town they call “home”.

Ipswich has a long history of theatre.  Years ago performances took place at the Old Rep.  Have a drink in this fine old building and look up to see the former circle…which is now a gallery. Now, with over half a dozen theatre venues in Ipswich town centre alone you are spoilt for choice.

For those who enjoy classical or folk music a trip to the world famous Snape Maltings, just fifteen miles from Ipswich, is a must.
